Inspired by Cunégonde, the heroine of Voltaire’s Candide, this sculpture is a unique, hand-engraved, cold cast bronze edition of ‘The Prize’, that was originally displayed in Thomas Hoblyn’s Chelsea Flower Show garden, where it helped earn a Silver Gilt Medal in 2010.
This unique new version, ‘The Prize (Genesis)’, was created as a new and very special version of this beloved sculpture for display at Leeds Castle, Kent, where we were guest artists for their ‘Flora & Fauna’ sculpture trail.
The original version of ‘The Prize’ was electroformed in nanocrystalline copper, one edition was made in cold cast copper (both of which have been sold) and two options available in cold cast bronze. However this particular cold cast bronze version is utterly unique, not just in its finish but in the sensual engravings that now weave across the body, like ferns unfolding in dappled light.
Each leaf was carefully hand-scribed — days of quiet, meditative work — until the sculpture felt alive beneath our hands. The delicate engravings caress and explore the curves of her elegant form, catching the light and elevating an already beautiful piece to another level. The buyer of this piece will have the pleasure of knowing they own something completely exclusive.

She is made to hang both indoors and outdoors, whether as a striking focal point in a garden, courtyard, or landscape design, or suspended in a light-filled interior, catching the glow of the changing day. Over time, as bronze always does, her patina will shift subtly, deepening, responding to the elements and the air.
